Trip up the Manggar River (a little over a week ago ... when Jim was still here ...)

We didn't know what to expect on this trip. The Manggar River is very near Jim's office. And Lusy lives in the village of Manggar which sits at the mouth of the Manggar.

We expected a little canoe and were surprised to be on a fishing boat with 4 Indonesian guys. We arranged this trip through a driver in our compound who heard through another driver that Missus Sharon was wanting to find a way up the river. The boat's owner is a brother of one driver.

When Lusy saw this photo, she laughed and said, "Mister always like foot massage!"
I'm gonna miss that girl! :)

A Morning Hike in the Hills and Villages across the road ... with Friends from Canada

And we're off. The morning is already hot at 7:30! Wish we'd left at 6!

Small bamboo forest.

Village scenes.

Impressive blacktop!

My friends, Angela and Barb, each from the same area near Calgary, Alberta, Canada. And Barb's son, Scott, who was here for a visit.

Enlarge photo and look closely -- the larger, rounded-topped, blue roofed building is part of the SLB offices where Jim worked.

If there ever was a "Neighborhood Beautification Award" this village should win it. We came across it on our way back from the hills. Notice the attention to details -- not a speck of trash, matching potted plants with "pots" made of old tires, matching green paint all along the way, ... We were in shock! And we loved it! The people were so friendly, too! What a great way to start the day!

After 2 1/2 hours of hiking in the heat -- this is how I felt!

Jim, Saying Goodbye to Balikpapan

Flowers that Jim bought for me ... I'm loving 'em!

Our last breakfast on our patio.

Lusy cried when she said goodbye to Jim ... she's already looking glum, here, before the goodbyes.

Our farewell BBQ by the pool and the ocean.

This is a custom-made hard hat with Jim's job title, the location, and his name . Very Indonesian.

Jim made a lovely speech!

And his hat was a hit!
